Respect: We all deserve it.
One of our most important roles as educators is helping our children learn how to treat others with respect. We model this by giving them respect from the first day they walk into our building. Students are treated as equal individuals and are encouraged to teat others the way they would like to be treated. Our students call us by our first names because we want to eliminate the feeling that teachers are above students; this helps us to get to know them better, and vice versa. Once a respectful relationship is created among staff and students, the more staff can do to help students be successful. It is our job to offer them the opportunity to learn in the best way we know how—in a cooperative, respectful learning environment. From the way that we treat each other in the classroom, to the way we handle a disruption or disagreement, one of the words we live by at da Vinci is respect.
