Reason: We use good judgment.
Our world is increasingly becoming a more complex one. We now have access to more opportunities, more people, and more information than ever. The sheer scale of what we have at our fingertips can be overwhelming! As a result, it is also more important than ever to have the capacity for logical, rational, and analytic thought. It is vital that we prepare our students to use good judgment. In order to use reason, we must obtain, organize, and evaluate information. At da Vinci, we place a heavy emphasis on news and current events at both a local and global level. Students are taught proper research techniques that take advantage of the types of information we now have available to us. They utilize an increasing amount of technology to organize and evaluate the information they collect. Classes like Sociology and History allow students to gain perspective in an increasingly connected world, while an emphasis on informative, expository, and persuasive writing in specific English classes teaches students how to express themselves eloquently to a variety of audiences. By learning how to collect and evaluate information within the context of our compassionate community, students leave da Vinci confident in their ability to use reason.
