In the past, I’ve lived at The Hub and Evo, which both offer affordable housing options for students in University City. While the Evo property is a bit pricier than some of the dilapidated West Philly houses I’ve lived in, it’s worth the extra money to live in a building with a full-sized gym and study rooms that aren’t occupied by fraternities and sororities blasting Kanye on their work nights and ralphing around the halls.
Another great option is Tripalink, which offers two- to five-bedroom apartments that are much more affordable than other student housing communities in the area. They also provide a private bedroom for each resident, which is a big difference from living in a dorm and sharing your space with dozens of other people.
Other popular options include the Powelton Village and Spruce Hill neighborhoods, which are close to the University of Pennsylvania and have a friendly community atmosphere. These neighborhood also offer a range of different apartment options, including historic townhouses and modern apartments.
